On November 11, 2019 the planet Mercury transited the solar surface. It’s one of the few times we can see Mercury from a land based telescope and see the shape of the planet. The next Mercury transit won’t be until November 13, 2032.
The transit lasted just over 5 hours with the occasional partly cloudy skies. I was able to image the entire transit and create a time lapse so if you missed it now’s your chance to see its splendor.
This is a composite image showing different phases of the transit and the path it took.
